Memorial toponymy of Kuban

Abstract

The author considers the issues of preserving the historical memory of events, people and their actions, which are immortalized in the names of cities, towns, streets. The purpose is to show examples of Kuban toponyms that have arisen at different times since the Cossacks moved to these lands until today. The significance of the work consists in the fact that the appearance of anthropotonyms (the village of Bryukhovetskaya, the village of Vasyurinskaya) associated with the names of kure atamans, state and military figures (the villages of Grigoripolis, Suvorovskaya), participants in wars whose names tell about the history of our region (the village of Raevskaya, Velyaminovskaya, the village of Arkhipo-Osipovka) is studied.

Attention is paid to the appearance of godonyms in the city of Yekaterinodar – Krasnodar, reflecting the history of the military city (Serf Street, Postovaya, named after Zakharov, named after Pokryshkin, named after Peter Metalnikov).

The author notes that the knowledge of oikonyms helps people to realize the greatness of their Homeland and their responsibility for its future fate.
