The article is devoted to the assessment of the scientific heritage of the famous Russian historian of the 1960s - 1970s P.N. Pavlov in the works of researchers of the last quarter of the XX – early XXI centuries M.M. Gromyko, G.F. Bykoni, Yu.V. Zhurov, A.I. Razdorsky, L.E. Mezit, I.P. Pavlova, D.Ya. Rezun, N.N. Pokrovsky and A.I. Razdorsky.
The historiography indicates the coverage in the works of P.N. Pavlov of the diverse aspects of the commercial development of Siberia in the XVII century.
Researchers of P.N. Pavlov's work, who unanimously praised his books and articles, pointed out that the scientist had determined the influence of fur trade on the expansion of domestic and international economic ties.
Among the most significant provisions in the works of P.N. Pavlov, a number of historians attributed his conclusions that the commercial colonization and settlement of Siberia in the XVII century affected the decrease of the sable population, up to its extermination in the region, as well as the dynamics and nature of the socio-economic development of the eastern regions of Russia at that time.
The article identifies the most fundamental works of P.N. Pavlov ("Fur trade in Siberia of the XVII century" and "Commercial colonization of Siberia in the XVII century") from more than thirty scientific works published by the researcher. P.N. Pavlov identified various features of the commercial development of the region. On the basis of numerous financial and economic documents on the Mangazey, Ilim, Yenisei and Yakut counties, P.N. Pavlov revealed the mechanisms of fur extraction by Siberians as their main type of activity, and not by the way, determined the nature of the tax taxation of the Siberian population – both aboriginal and Russian who came to permanent residence. P.N. Pavlov studied the types of fur produced, and the tools of the trade itself, and the social affiliation of Siberian industrialists.
