On the question of the dialectic of the cultural-symbolic development of the landscape

Abstract

The article shows the relevance of landscape research in modern humanitarian disciplines, which is primarily due to the modern understanding of the place, not only from the point of view of nature management, but also the cultural development of space, the creation of a cultural landscape, cultural environment. In this work, the term “landscape” is understood as a somehow structured environment in which a person lives and acts, a space that “contains natural and cultural components, is mastered utilitarian, semantically and symbolically”. The dialectical nature of the cultural and symbolic development of the landscape by man and culture is revealed. The authors proceed from the fact that the driving force of this process is the aspiration of a person to meaning. It is shown that the symbolic development of the landscape and even its formation begins at the dawn of human culture. The question of the mutual influence of ethnic culture and the enclosing landscape is considered. Particular attention is paid to the urban landscape - as a form and as an object of cultural and symbolic development. It is concluded that further generalization of the accumulated materials and research on the topic of the cultural landscape is most promising to carry out taking into account the revealed dialectics, as well as proceeding from the inherent aspiration of human nature towards meaning, and therefore towards cultural-symbolic development of the space of its habitat.
