Sicilian cultural landscape in the image memory of Marina Tsvetaeva

Abstract

The article focuses on the analysis of the individual memory of Marina Tsvetaeva on the example of the Sicilian cultural landscape. The informatization of modern society leads to the dynamization of cultural memory and an increase in the role of individual memory in the generation of cultural texts and their interpretations. The Sicilian cultural landscape in the mythopoetic world of Marina Tsvetaeva occupies a special place, since, on the basis of Sicilian topography, the author creates a text whose meaning is inverted in relation to the established perception of Sicily in European and Russian culture. Since ancient times, Sicily has been a meeting place for different cultures; its landscape has entered mythology, history and philosophy. Sicily acts as a cultured space of civilization. In Tsvetaeva's work, the Sicilian cultural landscape is interpreted through two strategies for reading landscape texts - traveling and studying literary texts about a particular territory. During a trip in 1912, Marina Tsvetaeva created an interpretation of Sicily as a dream space, and during the development of Hölderlin's work in 1923–1925. Sicily and Mount Etna become a symbol of wild nature, a riot of passions, going beyond the boundaries of culture and civilization, the authenticity of man's natural impulses. Tsvetaeva's individual memory is built according to a system of places, one of which is Sicily, but these toposes play a special role in the space of memory, due to the inversion of the meanings of culture in the poet's creative world.
